In a screw press including a flywheel 2 mounted on a support 7, a ram 3 is reciprocated by a pair of fluid-operable double-acting piston- and-cylinder devices 4 pivotally connected to the support 7 and the ram 3, the flywheel 2 and ram 3 having a screw-threaded connection 5 whereby the force of the flywheel is transmitted to the ram. Means may be provided for terminating the supply of fluid to the devices 4 during the upstroke or downstroke of the ram. During the downstroke the ram 3 may be braked by supplying fluid to the reverse side of the pistons. |
