1,228,333. Container traffic. JERVIS B. WEBB CO. 1 Jan., 1970 [7 Jan., 1969], No. 48/70. Heading B8Q. Containers 12, Fig. 5, with trays 14 are unloaded from an aircraft 10, Fig. 1, on to a conveyerized dock 20 along which they are transported to a point 26 where the trays are manually transferred to a conveyer 30 which comprises belt conveyers 32, 33, Fig. 2, and roller conveyers 34. Several conveyers 32 and the end of the conveyer 33 are supported by an elevator 36 so that they may be aligned with the tiers of a container. Each tray is transferred to a self-propelled carriage 38 at a transfer station 37 and each carriage is programmed to run along a monorail 40 until it enters one of a plurality of loops 70-72, Fig. 1, at a baggage pick-up point 68. At this point passengers remove their baggage from the trays on the carriages and the latter, when unloaded, leave the loops and proceed to a storage area 82 and a baggage receiving area 83. Loaded trays and carriages are returned through the transfer station 37, which can operate in both directions, so that loaded trays can be inserted into empty containers at the point 26. |
