1,268,302. Crimped polyamide filaments. FARBWERKE HOECHST A.G. 16 Jan., 1970 [17 Jan., 1969], No. 2191/70. Heading B5B. Crimped filaments of synthetic linear polyamides or copolyamides are made by passing the melt-spun polyamide or copolyamide filaments, immediately after cooling to the solidification point, about a godet, or godets, cooled to a temperature between 0‹ and 80‹ C. and then drawing off the filaments from the godet(s) at a rate which corresponds to the desired drawing ratio; the draw point being situated on the periphery of the cooled godet(s) or at a distance no greater than 10 cm. from the point where the filaments leave the cooled godet(s). Specified polyamides are nylon 6 and nylon 6,6 and the cooled godets are preferably at a temperature just above the dew-point. The crimped filaments thus obtained may be subjected to a thermal after-treatment to intensify and heat-set the crimps. As shown filaments 2 issuing from the spinneret 1 are passed through the thread guide 3 on to the cooled, movable godets 4, then to the spin-finish bath and roller 5 and then to the draw-off godets 6, which rotate at a rate sufficiently faster than rollers 4 to stretch the filaments by the desired movement. The filaments are collected on the wind-up bobbin 7. |
