A filter element (1) for liquids comprises a tube (2) with a mantle (3) providing a filter surface. The element has a non-round cross-section. An independent claim is also included for a filter device comprising at least one tubular casing which has an inlet opening and outlet opening for liquid and contains at least one of the above filter elements.
