<p>Film splitting device comprising a series of toothed cutting wheels and washers stacked alternately on a common shaft (2), where the washers (7) and cutters (8) are grooved (9, 10) to fit on a key (1) on the shaft (2) so that radial slots (11), (12) provided in the washers and cutters are aligned. The stack of washers and cutters is mounted between ratchet wheels (5, 6) which carry a series of adjusted threaded pins (4-17). Adjustment of the pins and tightening of the ratchet wheels allows the shape of the stacked cutters to be distorted so as to vary the spacing and pattern of the split lines formed in plastic film (23) which is passed between such a cutter assembly and a meshing pressure roll.
