Generally, time codes recorded on a disc are represented in relative times from the leading ends of video data on the video programs. Therefore, if vid eo programs are recorded on the disc, a plurality units of video data including identical time codes exist. In such a case, restoration may not be effected in the correct order. When video data and image data are recorded on a recordin g medium, the data is divided into a plurality of units and recorded on the recording medium. Information representing the reproduction order in a sequence and information for identifying the apparatus by which the data is recorded are added to each unit. With this constitution, even if units which have identical information representing the reproduction order in a sequence exist on the recording medium, the sequences can be discrininated from each other. When the data is reproduced since the apparatus ID uniquely given to each apparatus is added.
