[Also in Division A5] Novel compounds of the general formula wherein R and R 1 independently denote H atoms or C 1-7 alkyl or aralkyl groups; R 2 means C 1-6 alkyl or carboxyalkyl; " alkylene " denotes a bivalent alkylene radical which may be straight, branched or substituted by an aryl group; a dotted line denotes an optional ring- forming bond; and are not identical, and salts, e.g. Na and N- methyl-glucamine salts thereof, may be obtained by reacting a reactive derivative of tetraiodoterephthalic acid (a) in any sequence with different primary or secondary amines, one from each of the formulae in which R 2 1 means C 1-6 alkyl, carboxyalkyl or alkyl ester; and -COOR<SP>1</SP> denotes a carboxyl, carboxylate or ester group; and hydrolysing and ester groups present; or (b) with an amine of Formula (II) to form a mono amide and then reacting this with amine of Formula (III); or (c) with amine (III) and then with amine (II). |
