FIELD: production of metal by electroslag refining, possibly electroslag welding and electroslag surfacing of metal. ^ SUBSTANCE: installation includes electrode holder mounted on pedestal, electric motor, control unit. Installation is provided with pulse type control unit, hydraulic power station and at least two electrically controlled valves. Pulse type control unit provides lag-free movement of electrode holder by means of hydraulic cylinder joined with electrode holder. One valve is used for feeding liquid to hydraulic cylinder and other valve is used for draining liquid from hydraulic cylinder. Both valves are connected with pulse type control unit. ^ EFFECT: improved mode of electroslag refining process, enhanced efficiency, simplified design, drive system and control unit of installation. ^ 3 dwg
