Electrode (4, 5) has a current-carrying core (8a-8d) having a reinforcement (9a-9d) made from an electrically conducting material which is neutral towards the melt and slag. The reinforcement surrounds the electrode region (13) which is in contact with the slag or melt. An independent claim is also included for a process for arranging a current-carrying electrode in an electric arc furnace (1), especially an electric arc reducing furnace.
