APPARATUS FOR DIRECT REDUCTION OF IRON OXIDES

FIELD: production of metallic iron by direct reduction of iron ore. ^ SUBSTANCE: apparatus is charged by action of gravity. Apparatus includes reactor that has upper part with reduction zone for carrying out reducing reaction; device for charging material in mouth of reactor; system for feeding gas flow at least to one section of reactor while taking into account arrangement of reduction zone; device for discharging reduced material out of lower part of reactor; unit for discharging waste gases. Reactor includes at least first upper heating zone for preliminary reduction and final reduction being in the form of divergent downward cone and second lower carburization and cooling zone in the form of convergent downward cone. Cone portion begins at once behind mouth of reactor. Height of first upper zone consists 1/4 - 1/2 of height of reactor. First upper zone at once behind mouth is restricted at least by two successive segments with different divergence angles relative to vertical line. ^ EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of process, improved quality of product. ^ 15 cl, 4 dwg
