Described is a method for preparing nucleic acids from an environment sample, more particularly a method for obtaining a library of nucleic acids from a sample. Also described are nucleic acids of nucleic acid libraries obtained by the method and their use in the synthesis of compounds of therapeutic interest. Further described are means used in the method for obtaining the nucleic acids, such as vectors and processes for preparing such vectors or recombinant host cells containing the nucleic acids. Finally, methods for detecting a nucleic acid of interest within a library of nucleic acids resulting from the method is described, in addition to nucleic acids detected by this method and polypeptides encoded by these nucleic acids.
