1,204,727. Filter cartridge. BENDIX CORP. 24 Nov., 1967 [25 Nov., 1966], No. 53660/67. Heading B1D. [Also in Division F2] An inward-flow filter cartridge for liquid fuel comprises a stack of paper washers -30 which swell in the presence of water, raising the pressure drop across the filter, and a plastics valve member 44 with a frangible portion 46 which breaks in response to the increased pressure drop, whereupon member 44 slides down the cartridge to engage seat 40 (Fig. 3, not shown) and cut off the flow therethrough. In Fig. 4 (not shown) the breaking is triggered by a poppet valve (56), in passage 50, which opens at a pressure higher and more precisely determined than the breaking pressure of valve 44, 46. A number of cartridges operate in parallel in a common housing, wherein they are clamped with lower ferrules 32 in holes in a plate (16) (Fig. 1, not shown). Instead of a stack of washers 30, the filter element may comprise a helically wound strip.
|
