1,204,569. Battery assembly of stacked cells. SPETSIALNOE KONSTRUKTORSKOE BJURO METP. 4 Dec., 1968, No. 57547/68. Heading H1B. A galvanic battery comprises an insulated body containing a plurality of mechanically separate cells stacked electrically in series in a pile, which is held under axial elastic compression by the lid and its opposing wall, so as to provide electrical contact between the cell electrodes. Positive and negative electrical leadout terminals are provided in the lid and make electrical contact with the cells due to the force of compression of the pile. In the embodiment shown the pile 4 is compressed when lid 7 is inserted in plastics body 1 and welded thereto. A spacer 5 ensures uniform pressure distribution to the electrodes. Electrical contact of positive and negative leadouts 8 and 9 with their respective current conductors 6 and 3 is ensured as well as that of the current conductors with the electrodes of the end cells. In another embodiment the pile of cells is divided into two sections. In one section the positive electrodes face downwards and in the other the negative electrodes face downwards, the two sections being connected by a conducting plate. |
