摘要 A modular pneumatic transfer system for belt conveyors bas a series of individual plastic transfer blocks over which the belt rides. Used as a transfer vacuum system, each transfer block is part of a self-contained suction module, each module incorporating a low pressure air jet serving as a reaction sensing means to determine the presen ce of an overlying article; a multi-stage air-driven venturi, operating as an air ejector, provides high vacuum in the suction block; and a pneumatic control actuated by the sensing means activates the venturi and applies the vacuum to the respective block. This suction at the block, is applied to perforations in the belt causing "draw-down" of the sensed object onto the belt, for transfer thereby. The blocks may also be used as air cushion modules, in a supporting mode. The belt drive synchronous motor is located in the conveyor mid-section, with belt position relative to workstations located alonside th e belt being determined by the motor controller, for instance, a synchronous electric motor, for accurate stop/start operation of the conveyor (including reversal) in relati on to the adjoining work stations. Direct drive of the transfer belt can be provided, using a toothed transfer belt. A number of such conveyors can operate side by side, drivers by a shared splined drive shaft. The guide rolls of the system nay be of plastic, having the support bearings set into the roll end or ends, for love cost replacement of the rol l. The extruded beam on which the transfer blocks are carried contains four large bore servi ce galleries from which high pressure and low pressure air are supplied to the system.</S DOAB>
