PURPOSE: A key arrangement controlling method in a portable terminal is provided to maintain a direction of keys of a rotary key device though a direction of the rotary key device is changed according to a position of the portable terminal. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises several steps. A controller checks whether a current mode is a display mode(401). The controller checks whether an automatic display change mode is set in the display mode(402). The controller checks whether the first, the second, the third, and the fourth direction sensing signal are generated(403-406). In a case that the first direction sensing signal is generated, the controller regulates the direction of the keys of the rotary key device. In a case that the second, the third, and the fourth direction sensing signal are generated, the controller regulates the direction of keys in a key arrangement of the first direction(407).
