PURPOSE: A cable modem managing apparatus and its method are provided to allow a user to conveniently check causes of problems generated at a cable modem and to perform the real time automatic management of the cable modem by using a CPE(Customer Premises Equipment). CONSTITUTION: A terminal(20), comprises a modem manager(22), a data processor, and a display(24). The modem manager(22), if a data transmitter sends a start signal and a temporary IP address, performs IP communication with a cable modem(10) by using the temporary IP address, sends an operation history data request signal to an SNMP(Simple Network Management Protocol) agent through the IP communication according to the SNMP, and manages a state of the cable modem(10) by using received operation history data. The data processor stores the operation history data which enables the modem manager(22) to manage the state of the cable modem(10), and offers a display signal for displaying the operation history data. The display(24) displays the operation history data according the display signal.
