ACTIVE MATRIX COLOR LCD HAVING POLISHED COLOR FILTER SUBSTRATE FOR REDUCE THE COST OF LCD AND MAINTAINING HIGH CONTRAST RATIO

PURPOSE: An active matrix color LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) having a polished color filter substrate is provided to prevent disclination of the color filter substrate without requiring an overcoat film, to thereby reduce the cost of the LCD while maintaining a high contrast ratio of the LCD. CONSTITUTION: An LCD includes a TFT(Thin Film Transistor) substrate, a color filter substrate(10), and a twisted nematic liquid crystal layer interposed between the TFT substrate and the color filter substrate. The color filter substrate includes a transparent substrate(11), a light-shielding layer(12) having a grating pattern, formed on the transparent substrate, a color layer(13) formed on a part of the transparent substrate and the edges of stripes of the light-shielding layer, and an alignment film covering the coloring layer and the remaining portion of the stripes of the light-shielding layer.
