PURPOSE: An image forming apparatus and a method for controlling a lamp thereof are provided to generate an accurate lamp control signal corresponding to a measured surface temperature by generating different lamp control signals according to a surface temperature, thereby accurately controlling a lamp. CONSTITUTION: An image forming apparatus includes a fixing roller and a lamp for heating the fixing roller. A thermistor(100) measures a surface temperature of the fixing roller. If the measured surface temperature is higher than a predetermined reference temperature for judging high and low temperatures, a controller(200) amplifies a voltage value corresponding to the surface temperature as much as a predetermined amplification value, and controls the lamp by a lamp control signal based on the amplified voltage value.
