PURPOSE: A variable compression ratio engine is provided to prevent impact in restricting rotation of a rotating shaft after turning the rotating shaft by explosion of the engine and inertia by selectively regulating rotation of the rotating shaft according to two different phases of rotation. CONSTITUTION: A variable compression ratio engine is composed of a one-way clutch inserted between a rotating shaft and an engine body to regulate direction of rotation of the rotating shaft according to rotational force applied from a control rod through an eccentric shaft to the rotating shaft in reciprocating a piston, a restricted member(88) reciprocating in turning the rotating shaft and interlocking and connecting with the eccentric position of the rotating shaft, and a restricting unit(89) contacted to and combined with the restricted member after passing the restricted member through the reciprocating end to selectively regulate rotation of the rotating shaft according to one of two phases of rotation by adjusting the compression ratio.
