PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for utilizing the space of a standby display of a mobile terminal are provided to divide a standby display provided basically to a mobile terminal into a plurality of displays, show predetermined pictures selected or frequently used by a user on the divided displays in order for contents of the predetermined pictures to be utilized immediately. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for utilizing a standby display comprises a program memory(202) for storing a standby display setting program, an LCD display(206) for displaying a plurality of sub-displays. A display controller(208) controls to divide the LCD display into a plurality of sub-displays. A key inputting portion(204) includes menu selection buttons for performing a standby display setting menu. A microprocessor(216) divides the standby display into a plurality of displays according to key inputs and displays received data through wireless Internet on each of a plurality of displays. A data storing portion(210) temporarily stores numbers or characters inputted by the key inputting portion and the data received from an external source.
