PURPOSE: A hot melt adhesive is provided to reduce or eliminate the base odor of hot melt adhesives, in particular to mask the odor of the base adhesive without using use perfumes or fragrances. CONSTITUTION: The hot melt adhesive comprises a neutralizing material. Particularly, the adhesive is a rubber-based adhesive containing a hydrocarbon tackifier and/or a terpene tackifier. The adhesive may be a pressure sensitive adhesive or a low application temperature hot melt adhesive. Such adhesive is applied for the manufacture of an article, for example disposable absorbent such as a diaper, a feminine sanitation product or a adult incontinent product, comprising a liquid-permeable topsheet, a liquid-impermeable backsheet, a fluid-absorbent core material disposed between the topsheet and the backsheet and a hot melt adhesive containing a nonencapsulated neutralizing material.
