1,206,585. String-discharge filters. DORROLIVER CO. Ltd. and P. EVANS. 30 Sept., 1967, No. 38939/66. Heading B1D. A string-discharge filter includes a filter surface 21 having ridges and furrows in which are located the cake-discharging strings 3. As described, the surface of a drum 2 is provided with circumferential ribs 23 and a wire gauze screen 22 forming ridges and furrows. A filter cloth 21 is secured thereto by wires 28. Running in the furrows are cake-removing strings 3, or ribbons (not shown). This filter surface is passed through the suspension to be filtered as drum 2 rotates, and a vacuum is applied through pipes 15 to the drum's interior, whereby filter cake 29 is formed in the furrows. The strings 3 remove the cake 30 and may be aided by the application of pressure to the drum's interior. Subsequently strings 3 pass through a cake-detaching comb 7, a guideroller 5, a cake-removing knife 8, a realigning comb 10, and a return roller 6, being subjected to washing from a spray 9. Fig. 6 (not shown) illustrates an alternative filter surface, where the ribs 23 are each replaced by a row of wedge-shaped teeth (32) secured by webs (35). |
