1,206,334. Purification of trilaurylamine. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. 31 May, 1968 [6 June, 1967], No. 26125/68. Heading C2C. A solution of trilaurylamine in an inert organic solvent which is contaminated with dilaurylamine is purified by converting the trilaurylamine and dilaurylamine of the solution into their free amine states by a basic treatment if said amines are present as amine salts; adding in stoichiometric quantity (with respect to dilaurylamine) to the solution of free amines either a salt of trilaurylamine which is soluble in the solution but has a corresponding dilaurylamine salt insoluble in the solution or an acid which yields with trilaurylamine a salt soluble in the solution but with dilaurylamine a salt insoluble in said solution; and separating the dilaurylamine salt precipitated from the resultant solution. The organic solvent is preferably dodecane. The solution to be purified may have been used as an industrial solvent (i.e. a solution of trilaurylamine in dodecane) for the purification of plutonium in nitric acid solution. The acid may be added to the solution of free amines as the concentrated acid or a dilute aqueous acid or a dilute acid in an organic solvent. The trilaurylamine salt may be added to the solution of free amines as a solution in the inert organic solvent. The orecipitation is preferably carried out at 10‹ to 20‹ C., and the precipitate may be separated by filtration on fritted glass powder or sintered stainless steel powder.
|
