PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a base material for a printed wiring board which uses, as an electric insulation layer, a sheet base material obtained by binding polyimide to a base material for a printed wiring board which is made of liquid crystal aromatic polyester, and which has a dimensional stability. SOLUTION: The base material for the printed wiring board is made of liquid crystal aromatic polyester, and contains polyimide resin by not less than 1 wt.% nor more than 50 wt.%, and is in a form of film or nonwoven fabric.
