PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader in which dirt and dust or the like are prevented from intruding into an inside housing, the dirt and the dust or the like are thereby prevented from adhering to each of mirrors with which an optical system moving unit is equipped and also, a deterioration in an image is prevented. SOLUTION: Elastic seal members 70 and 71 for respectively sealing insertion holes 30 and 31 are provided on the back surface of an outside cover 2 (that is, the back surface 2c of a left side plate 2a). The one-side ends 70a and 71a of the elastic seal members 70 and 71 are each stuck to the back surface of the cover 2. In the case of inserting set screws 18 and 19 respectively through the insertion holes 30 and 31 formed on the outside cover 2, the elastic seal members 70 and 71 are pressed and bent by the set screws 18 and 19, and come to a position where the set screws 18 and 19 are allowed to be respectively inserted through the insertion holes 30 and 31 formed on the outside cover 2.
