PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a book rest preventing the paper face of an optionally opened page from returning to an original state by holding slight partial areas of a cover and a back cover of a book from both sides to compensate for such a defect of the rectangular back type book that many of the rectangular back type book of A5 size or larger stand still in a readable state when turning the pages around the middle and letting go the hold but the paper faces of pages close to the beginning and the end mostly return to the original state when letting go the hold even if pressing them hard by hand. SOLUTION: A portion with shallow depth in an edge direction from the back of a soft and rectangular back type book is held and lightly fixed by two sliding blades, and either one of the blades is slightly moved by a screw or a cam and pressed hard to complete setting, thus permitting reading of the optional page.
