<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To miniaturize a liquid fuel type fuel cell by obviating the need of a concentration monitoring system such as a liquid delivery pump for supplying a high-concentration fuel to a fuel tank, and a concentration sensor. <P>SOLUTION: A valve element 48 opened and closed in response to the fuel concentration in the fuel tank is installed in a fuel cartridge or the like of this liquid fuel type fuel cell. Valves 52-54 provided with a transmission channel 56 transmitting the fuel are stacked in an impermeable film 60 without transmitting the fuel, and spaces 61 and 62 are formed among them. The transmission channel 56 is formed of, for instance, a perfluorosulfonic acid resin or the like, and the transmission channel 56 is narrowed for the valve 54 on the low concentration side. Since the perfluorosulfonic acid resin in the transmission channel 56 is swollen by a fuel component such as methanol to close the channel 56 to become impervious against the liquid fuel when the methanol concentration on the low concentration side is increased. Thereby, the fuel concentration of the fuel tank can autonomously be adjusted by the valve 48, so that the need of a methanol sensor and a liquid delivery pump can be obviated. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
