PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data retrieval device and method for relatively easily and properly using map data on which, for example, the latest road conditions or the like are reflected without updating the whole map data including, for example, spot data or the like. SOLUTION: A data retrieval device (200) is configured to retrieve target spot data showing a desired spot from an overall data list including original data (211) including a plurality of original spot data showing spots on a map and difference data (212) including at least one updated spot data showing an updated spot with the original data as a reference. The data retrieval device is provided with a first acquisition means (201) for acquiring at least one original spot data from the original data, a second acquisition means (202) for acquiring the updated spot data from the difference data and a data output means (203) for combining the updated spot data acquired by the second acquisition means with the original spot data acquired by the first acquisition means, and for outputting the data as target spot data.
