PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a selection assisting device for an automatic transmission capable of expanding the degree of freedom in layout by miniaturizing a select lever while securing the reliability by the mechanical connection of the select lever and a range position switching device. SOLUTION: In this selection assisting device, an assisting force control means comprises an operating direction detecting part for detecting the select lever operating direction, and a lever stop judging part for judging whether the select lever is stopped or not. Further this selection assisting device comprises a correction value detecting part for comparing an actual operating position signal (input value) at a present position of the select lever output from a position sensor with an operating position signal (set value) corresponding to the present position of the select lever set on a table by operating direction, when the select lever is stopped, and detecting the correction value as the deflection of the set value from the input value by operating direction, and an operating position correcting part for correcting the set value by operating direction on the basis of the detected correction value.
