PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer which can perform recording while suppressing jitter by eliminating unevenness in lateral stripe pattern between lines, and to provide its recording method. SOLUTION: The printer 1 comprising a thermal head 3 having a plurality of heating elements and a carrying mechanism 5 and performing recording by conducting the heating elements selectively to generate heat while moving a recording medium through a carrying mechanism is further provided with a means 7 for detecting information about carrying speed of the recording medium being carried by the carrying mechanism, and a control means 9 for varying the pulse width, starting point and pulse width of a conduction pulse being transmitted to each heating element in the thermal head depending on the information detected by the detecting means.
