摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface coated cemented carbide solid gear cutting tool which exhibits excellent wear resistance in high-speed gear cutting. SOLUTION: The surface coated cemented carbide solid gear cutting tool has a plurality of spaces which are radially arranged with respect to a rotation shaft along a lengthwise direction, and a plurality of tooth portions serially arranged between the spaces along the lengthwise direction. Each tooth portion consists of front and rear surfaces with respect to a rotating direction, and face the spaces, wherein the front surface forms a cutting face, and a top surface (tooth tip surface) and both side surfaces (right and left tooth surfaces) each forming a flank. Herein a surface of a tungsten carbide-based cemented carbide gear cutting tool body of the cutting tool thus formed is covered with a hard coating layer formed of a titanium nitride layer having a mean thickness of 0.9 to 15μm by physical vapor deposition. Further in the surface coated cemented carbide solid gear cutting tool, each of the top surface (tooth tip surface) and the side surfaces (right and left tooth surfaces) forming the flank of the tooth portion, has a heat insulating layer as a primary coat of the hard coating layer, which is formed by physical vapor deposition. The heat insulating layer has a mean thickness of 0.1 to 5μm and formed of a composite nitride containing Ti and Al, that satisfies the following composition formula: (Ti<SB>1-X</SB>Al<SB>X</SB>)N (where X is in the range of 0.40 to 0.65 by atomic ratio).
