PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a semiconductor memory device in which stable setup of data and hold time margin can be secured even at the time of high frequency operation. SOLUTION: A synchronous type semiconductor memory device having a double data transfer rate inputs and outputs data using, especially, a free running clock, and includes a preamble informing start of data to data to be outputted. This synchronous type semiconductor memory receives a read instruction of data from the outside responding to the prescribed clock signal applied from the outside, and outputs data including the preamble responding to this clock signal.
