PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new light emitting element which can be used in the light-emitting layer of an organic EL element to realize the long life emission of blue light in high efficiency, and to provide an organic EL element using the light emitting element. SOLUTION: This perylene derivative represented by formula (1) [R1to R8are each independently H, an alkyl or a cycloalkyl; X1to X4are each independently a group represented by formula (2), H, an alkyl, a cycloalkyl or phenyl, provided that at least one of X1to X4is the group represented by formula (2) (A1, A2, B1, B2and B3are each independently H, an alkyl, a cycloalkyl or phenyl which may be substituted with an alkyl, provided that at least one of A1 and A2 is an alkyl, a cycloalkyl or phenyl which may be substituted with an alkyl)], and the organic electroluminescent element containing the same.
