PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric power steering apparatus which can improve the rigidity of a steering shaft, and as a result, can improve the steering feeling. SOLUTION: A torque sensor 30 for measuring the steering torque applied to the steering shaft 2 is composed of the components only which are arranged outside the steering shaft 2 in a non-contact state. Therefore, machining of the steering shaft 2 and mounting of the sensor component on the steering shaft 2 are both unnecessary. An electronic control unit 20 controls the driving of an electric motor 10, which generates an auxiliary steering force, based on the steering torque detected by the torque sensor 30.
