The assembly comprises a number of fuel cell modules (31-39) and a controller (13) which switches at least one further module (37) depending on the efficiency of the first module(s) (31-36) supplying power to a load (25). Alternatively, the controller (13) switches the last module (36) if it is no longer needed. Independent claims are also included for a fuel cell assembly operating method and for power generating device.
