A method for operating an electric machine (1) driven via a converter (2) where the winding currents of the electric machine (1) are generated by a pulsed supply voltage with pulse-width modulation (PWM) and a pulse frequency (f) is determined by a desired output voltage (Usoll) of the converter. With an increasing amount of desired output voltage (Usoll) the pulse frequency (f) drops, and with a reducing amount of desired output voltage (Usoll) the pulse frequency rises.
