The variable valve timing control is incorporated in a system which transmits the torque of a drive shaft to a driven shaft adjusting the opening and closing time point of an inlet valve and/or an outlet valve, with a phase adjustment mechanism (10), for altering the rotation phase of the driven shaft, having a movable part displaced along a guide slot (62a,62b) in a guide part, in engagement with coupling elements (28,29) forming a closed cinematic chain. The movable part has a central body (70) with a circular outer surface rotating with one of the coupling elements and an outer body (72) with a circular inner surface rotating with the other coupling element.
