<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus in which the miniaturization of the apparatus is achieved and the running cost (cost/page) is reduced without degrading usability. <P>SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus, image forming units each include: a photoreceptor 1 on which an electrostatic latent image is formed; an electrifying roller 2 which uniformly electrifies the photoreceptor 1; a development device 4 which develops the electrostatic latent image with developer as a developer image; and an image carrier cleaning device 5 which clears away transfer residual developer on the photoreceptor 1. The image forming units are characterised in that, in a direction perpendicular to a line connecting the transfer position of the photoreceptor 1 of the i-th image forming unit P and the transfer position of the photoreceptor 1 of the (i+1)th image forming unit P, the image carrier cleaning device 5 of the i-th image forming unit P and the development device 4 of the (i+1)th image forming unit P are disposed so as to overlap each other, and the (m+1)th image forming unit PK for the final color is a cleaner-less image forming unit, which does not have a cleaning device. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
