<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To materialize an idling stop system at low cost, concerning a drive circuit for a rotary electric machine such as a motor generator which is mounted on a vehicle capable of preventing global warming or saving resources, by stopping the engine of the vehicle as far as possible at idling. <P>SOLUTION: An inverter 3100 includes a power circuit 3118 which controls the phase of a current supplied to a motor generator 3000, a stator current control circuit 3116, a field current driving circuit 3114, and a protective circuit 3112.
