PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an environmentally friendly antioxidant, and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: The antioxidant for a resin comprises lignin obtained by extraction from a plant. The lignin is preferably a hydrophobic lignin. The lignin is prepared, preferably, by splitting the plant into lignin and cellulose by treatment with wood-decaying fungi, extracting the lignin with an alcohol, precipitating the lignin by adding an acidic solution to the resultant alcohol solution followed by isolating the lignin.
