PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing metal phthalocyanine of high purity in high yield with industrial stability. SOLUTION: This invention is a method for producing metal phthalocyanine from at least one of compounds represented by general formula (I) (compounds A through F are included) (wherein a and b are each an independent substituent and the total value of Hammett's substituent constant (σρ) is≥0.20; m and n are each an integer satisfying the following: 1≤m≤4, 0≤n≤3, 1≤m+n≤4) and a metal compound.
