PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an effective resistance inducer which is effective in plants and has a low risk against human health and the environment, a method for inducing resistance in plants and a method for preventing disease and/or vermin damages in plants. SOLUTION: The resistance inducer contains a plant-derived signal transducer which is synthesized in response to an external stimulus and transmits a signal concerning the external stimulus. When the plant is exposed to the plant-derived signal transducer, e.g. a short-chain aldehyde such as (E)-2-hexenal and (Z)-3-hexenal, an isoprenoid such as allo-ocimene and/or a plant hormone such as jasmonic acid, the plant transmits the signal via a jasmonic acid signaling pathway, or the like, induces biophylactic genes and expresses antibacterial substances therein. The induction and expression of the antibacterial substances within the plant increase antibacterial property of the plant and thus prevent various diseases. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
