PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording medium returning device in which when a return lever is turned in the vicinity of a feed roller, a sheet is prevented from being partially lifted from a back side by an end of the return lever, while length of the return lever is maintained to exhibit sheet returning operation for the double-fed sheets. SOLUTION: When the return lever is turned in the vicinity of the feed roller 5 with no load in the longitudinal direction of the return lever, the length of the return lever 15 is sufficient for allowing the end 16 of the return lever 15 to move on a first trajectory passing through an inside region of a circumferential surface of the feed roller and for returning the other recording media onto a holding part. When the return lever 15 is turned in the vicinity of the feed roller 5 during feeding, the end of the return lever 15 is moved on a second trajectory passing on a plane substantially the same as a plane extending from the circumferential surface of the feed roller 5 because of the recording medium P.
