The fuel cooling system of the internal combustion engine (1) is positioned in the air intake (8)in such a way that the heat generated by the fuel injection system (4) is directly transferred to the intake air. The fuel cooler (7) is a space saving design because it is placed in the air intake (8) and can be mounted in the engine compartment. Since there is a high air throughput especially in the critical working point, the fuel cooling takes place automatically as required.
