<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wavelength plate of a simple structure which can be commonly used for three different wavelengths λ<SB>1</SB>, λ<SB>2</SB>, and λ<SB>3</SB>. <P>SOLUTION: A fine periodical structure 3 is provided as structural birefringence, in which a phase difference to light of wavelength λ<SB>1</SB>=λ<SB>a</SB>is (2n+1)/4 times (n=0, 1, 2, and so on) as large as λ<SB>a</SB>and a phase difference to light of a wavelength λ<SB>b</SB>satisfying a relation λ<SB>2</SB>≤λ<SB>b</SB>≤λ<SB>3</SB>(λ<SB>1</SB>≠λ<SB>2</SB>, λ<SB>3</SB>) is (2m+1)/4 times (m=0, 1, 2, and so on) as large as λ<SB>b</SB>. By this, the birefringence property can easily be controlled by changing materials and forms in the structural birefringence such as the fine periodical structure 3, while the birefringence property of a crystal or the like can not be changed because the property is peculiar to the substance itself. Accordingly, the wavelength plate can be commonly used even if the three wavelengths are comparatively largely different from each other, and an optical system using the wavelength plate 1 can be simplified. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
