<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical semiconductor module in which the distance between an optical semiconductor element and the optical input/output end face in an optical transmission line can be shortened, the positioning in the axial direction can be simplified and which can be manufactured at a low cost. <P>SOLUTION: The optical semiconductor module is constituted by optically coupling an optical semiconductor element and an optical transmission line. The module is characterized in that it is equipped with: an optical transmission line holding member 20 which mechanically holds the optical transmission line 30 in a holding hole 21 and which makes the optical input/output end face 33 of the optical transmission line 30 exposed on the principal face; an electrical wiring 50 which is formed on the principal face of the above holding member 20; an optical semiconductor element 10 which is mounted on the principal face of the holding member 20, which has an active region 11 optically coupled with the optical input/output end face 33 of the optical transmission line 30, and which has bumps (electrodes) 12 connected to the electrical wiring 50; and an electrical insulation film 40 which is inserted between the optical semiconductor element 10 and the holding member 20, which is provided with an opening in the electrical connecting and optical coupling part, and which is pressed by a part other than the waveguide 32 of the optical input/output end face 33 of the optical transmission line 30. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
