PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a near-field communication (NFC) device for performing the writing and reading of information with an extremely simple user interface. SOLUTION: A portable terminal 3 is provided with an NFC device 3-2 for performing the communication of information by near-field communication, a write button 3-5 and a read button 3-6. In the case of writing information from the portable terminal 3 to an external apparatus 2, a user moves the portable terminal 3 close to the information providing apparatus 2 such that the distance between the portable terminal 3 and the information providing apparatus 2 is about 10 cm while depressing the write button 3-5. In the case of reading out information from the external apparatus 2 to the portable terminal 3, the user moves the portable terminal 3 close to the information providing device 2 such that the distance between the terminal 3 and the apparatus 2 is about 10cm while depressing the read button 3-6.
