PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a disk driving device capable of transferring a pickup unit, carrying a disk and elevating a magnetic head even for a disk equipped with a cartridge such as an MD by a common motor. SOLUTION: This device is provided with a follower 6 engaged with a screw shaft 5 and a pickup unit 2. The follower 6 performs reciprocal linear motion in the transfer direction of the pickup unit 2 by the forward/backward rotation of the screw shaft 5. The follower 6 moves with the pickup unit 2 within the movable range of the pickup unit 2, and the single movement of the follower 6 is permitted outside the movable range of the pickup unit 2. Then, when the follower 6 is singly moved to the outside of the movable range of the pickup unit 2 in the stopped state of the pickup unit 2 in one end of the movable range, a transmission route connected to a reversible motor 7 is switched.
