PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure heat check resistance, wear resistance, and galling resistance in the slide contact face of a member such as a die for forging with which a prescribed member is brought into slide contact. SOLUTION: In the die 10 for forging, the surface of a base metal 12 made of steel is provided with a metallic layer 14. In the metallic layer 14, the relative density of the second layer 18 is the lowest. Prior to the use of the die 10 for forging, a release material, a lubricant or the like are paced into the pores of the second layer 18. When the die 10 for forging is used, the release material, lubricant or the like pass through the pores of the third layer 20 having a relative density higher than that of the second layer 18 and also set to the value equal to or lower than that of the first layer 16, and is exuded to the surface of the third layer 20. As a result, a lubricating release layer 22 is formed. Further, the second layer 18, and the first layer 16 and third layer 20 forming the metallic layer 14 together with the second layer 18 are made of the steel the same as that of the base metal 12.
