PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic electroluminescence element high in emission intensity and in luminous efficiency, and easy to manufacture. SOLUTION: In this organic electroluminescence element comprising one or more organic compound layers sandwiched between a pair of electrodes at least one of which is transparent or translucent, at least one of the organic compound layers is made of a hole transporting polymer containing repeated structures of a hole transporting monomer. The hole transporting monomer in the hole transporting polymer exhibits its maximum light absorption value in the wavelength range of >360 nm in methylene chloride, and the absolute value of the difference between the absolute value of the ionization energy necessary for the formation of cation radicals in the monomer and the absolute value of the electron affinity generated upon the conversion of the cation radicals to neutral molecules is≤0.6 eV.
